At the 2008 National Angel Summit held in Halifax, Nova Scotia, October 15 – 17, the National Angel Organization (NAO) changed its name to National Angel Capital Organization (NACO). The name change was prompted by the growing recognition of the term “angel capital” to describe the early stage class of finance and investing practised by angel investors. Increasingly, research reports and media coverage refer to angel capital. In Europe, the term “business angels” tends to be used more often in reference to angel investors.

The 8th Annual Angel Summit was co-chaired by Ross Finlay and Brian Lowe. Many of the more than 150 attendees described the event as the best summit ever. Further event details may be found at the NACO web site which remains unchanged at www.angelinvestor.ca.

The NAO/NACO announced the first ever Co-investment Summit will be held in Toronto on November 19, 2008 at the University of Toronto Faculty Club. This event will showcase twenty companies invested in by NAO members. This format is a departure from traditional venture fairs and forums in that the investing angels will be introducing businesses that they themselves have invested in. It is hoped that this will help bridge the credibility and trust gaps that are often major hurdles when examining a business for the first time. Henry Vehovec will be there with PCA Services Inc. (PCAS), www.pharmatrust.com, which will be discussed in a later blog entry. The event is open to NACO members only. Contact Henry Vehovec directly if you would like to attend as a guest, a limited number of passes are available.
